The 3D platformer was barely even present when it first came out and it’s much more interesting to me than the slightly better open world zombie game.Įmail your comments to: I enjoy The Last of Us as much as anyone but what I really dislike is that there is now a ‘Sony formula’ that is too specific. Nowadays everything should be very serious and serious. I miss those early PlayStation eras, when Sony was happy to play silly or family-friendly games. Although I don’t expect that to matter now that Sony has shut down the developer. I honestly think Ape Escape 1 and 2 are my favorites and I hope their presence in PS Premium will spark a renewed interest for the series.

Playing now: F1 22 (Xbox Series X) and Kirby And The Forogten Land If I only had this one game with my PlayStation 2, I’d say it was money well spent. As I write this, San Andreas is my favorite GTA game and there was a reason I bought a PlayStation 2 for my money. I didn’t go back to the recent collection because of bad reports about it, but I don’t know if it’s better if I keep my fond memories of the game rather than rewatch it and notice the parts that go badly. The soundtrack was great, it also had some good missions and memorable characters. It came out at a time when the game’s secrets weren’t spoiled within hours of release, so it’s a lot of fun exploring the world to see what you’re looking for. I spent countless hours in that sandbox on my PlayStation 2. The prospect of playing this game before release was astonishing for me and it lived up to my expectations and then some. They also added some lightweight role-playing mechanics, aircraft and other vehicles. At that time the ambition of San Andreas was absolutely insane to me, the size of a world consisting of three cities, a desert, a forest and a mountain – it seemed impossibly large to me. I had to check the release dates on it first, but the answer was obvious as soon as I found out it was only on PlayStation for a time and that was Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Just make sure you play Ico first, so that you understand the ending! I feel a little off recommending the PlayStation 4 remake, which I felt didn’t add anything, but it’s probably the best and easiest way to experience it. I think The Last Guardian is the weakest, even though it’s still good (like World’s End compared to Hot Fuzz) but it’s hard to compare the other two.Īs great as Ico is, I think there’s a lot of subtext going on with Shadow of the Colossus, which is a pretty clever game that says much with hardly any dialogue. The only difficulty is deciding which is which. God of War is, I would say, the best use of that formula and an excellent game that really made me like Kratos as a character, or at least not completely hate him.įor me though the best is the exclusive Ico trilogy. This is a tricky one, especially since while Sony’s overall quality has increased significantly compared to the previous generation, they have also become more formulaic.

Which suggests that despite the nostalgia being strong, Sony is still hitting the right notes. Lots of games were mentioned for almost every PlayStation format, though with a particular bias towards the original PlayStation and the most recent two consoles. However any game that was exclusive at the time of release was eligible, whether it was made by Sony or not.
